Why Kingfish?

The name comes from the Randy Newman song “Kingfish,” from the album “Good Ole Boys,” released in 1974. Co-owner Archie Shaffer saw Newman in concert a few years ago, and the name stuck with him for some reason.

“While I was watching the show, I thought if I open a bar someday, Kingfish would be a great name. It just kind of rolls off the tongue,” Shaffer said.

A series of other coincidences sealed the deal. When researching the name, Shaffer and co-owners Mike Rohrback and Ben Merryman came across an old logo with the fish from a now-defunct 1930′s produce company, and Fayetteville’s favorite neighborhood dive bar was born.
